Human Resources
The duties fulfilled by BYU–Hawaii’s Human Resources are extensive. Many aspects of faculty, staff, and student employment fall under the responsibility of Human Resources. These responsibilities consist, in part, of hiring, compensation, benefits, employee relations, training, and retirement issues.
Human Resources also must understand and meet employment-related compliance requirements mandated by state and federal laws. The list of compliance areas includes the following:
- Accommodations of persons with disabilities,
- Equal employment opportunity and nondiscrimination requirements,
- Fair Labor Standards Act (FLSA),
- Federal Drug-Free Workplace requirements,
- International employee issues (eligibility, visa restrictions),
- Occupational Safety and Health Act (OSHA), and
- Uniformed Services Employment and Reemployment Rights Act (USERRA).
Probably the most extensive compliance category that Human Resources handles is nondiscrimination. BYU–Hawaii is committed to a nondiscrimination policy regarding recruitment, employment, benefits, termination, and educational opportunities and programs. Through compliance with these requirements, BYU–Hawaii provides a safe, equal, and accessible workplace to potential and current employees of the university.
