Safety and Security

In order to provide a safe campus environment, Brigham Young University–Hawaii complies with the Jeanne Clery Disclosure of Campus Security Policy and Campus Crime Statistics Act, more commonly known as the Clery Act. The Clery Act requires the university to record and annually report certain campus crime statistics and security measures to all students and employees. Prospective students and employees also must receive either the report or a notice of its availability and a brief summary of its contents. Additionally, BYU–Hawaii complies with laws governing emergencies and fires and has procedures and programs in place to prevent the occurrence of crime and to protect minors and others who come to campus.

Because of the diversity of Brigham Young University–Hawaii’s operations, numerous safety, health, and environmental regulations apply to BYU–Hawaii. These regulations range from workplace safety to building codes to drone operation. Legal requirements include identifying workplace hazards, training personnel, safeguarding against accidents, and appropriately managing waste. The two federal agencies primarily involved in environmental, health, and safety regulation are the Occupational Safety and Health Administration and the Environmental Protection Agency, but other agencies (including state agencies) have adopted regulations that also apply to day-to-day operations on campus.
