i. Numerous state and federal laws govern the university's fundraising efforts. Moreover, when gifts are made, one must comply with applicable donor restrictions and manage funds in a prudent and responsible manner. In 1972, the Uniform Law Commission developed the Uniform Management of Institutional Funds Act to guide charities on the management and investment of endowment funds. At its 2006 annual conference, after three decades of abiding by this law, the National Conference of Commissioners of Uniform State Laws recommended a successor to this law in drafting the Uniform Prudent Management of Institutional Funds Act. The solicitation, receipt, and processing of charitable gifts at BYU–Hawaii is coordinated largely through the Philanthropies department of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.
