As a recipient and administrator of funds from The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, as well as the state and federal governments, Brigham Young University–Hawaii seeks to maintain processes that will ensure the proper use and oversight of these funds. To comply with certain federal and state statutes, regulations, and other relevant rules and guidelines, BYU–Hawaii seeks to implement and sustain effective financial control over its funds and the funds it administers.
BYU–Hawaii must understand and comply with many aspects of federal and state tax regulation. Included in the regulations are sales tax, foreign visitor tax, foreign student employment and scholarships, property taxes, payroll withholding, monthly filings, and most importantly, maintaining BYU–Hawaii's tax-exempt status.
